An ancient pub with a fine royal coat of arms on the outside wall. This was one of the last pubs in Abergavenny to brew its own beer in house. A largely unchanged interior, with plenty of beams and plaster. Formerly the home of Delafield's Brewery. Recently refurbished (July 2007), the bar has been moved but the interior largely unchanged, with whitewashed walls and oak beams. Jazz will be performed each Sunday evening, and live music planned frequently through the week.

If there is a pub that should be visited at least once in a lifetime, this is it. Situated amongst the stunning ruins of an 11th century abbey in the heart of the Black Mountains, where the silence can be deafening, this cellar bar is in what was, centuries ago part of the abbot's house. The accommodation is amazing and reached by a spiral staircase in one of the old abbey towers, although the rooms, being ancient, do not qualify as "en suite".

Set in a remote spot in the Black Mountains. Stone flagged floors and a wood burning stove set the mood for a pub selling beers rarely found in this area, but which were requested by the regulars. Stunning scenery in every direction makes this pub well worth finding, particularly if you have been walking the Offa's Dyke path, which passes on the ridge top a few hundred feet above. Nestling on the steep wooded sides of the Anghidy Valley amid scenic splendour, the Cherry Tree offers two real ales from smaller independents apart from the regular Hancock's HB, an ever-present for decades, plus cask (Bulmers Traditional) and bottled ciders. A wide choice of home-cooked food includes renowned curries. Hugely extended some years ago to add dining space and accommodation facilities, the pub's ground floor is the village shop and post office. To appreciate the scale of the extension, the original single bar is up some steps - where the old entrance used to be - at the rear and to the right of the bar counter. A sheltered patio is ideal for fine- and wet-weather   drinking and dining. Was Wales' only ever-present entry in the Guide, 35 years in 2008, this friendly pub still flies the flag for quality and choice.

Across the road  is  riverside  seating  giving splendid views along the River Wye.   Needless to say, steaks "made of 100% pure Welsh beef" and other grilled food  figure largely on the menu along with popular favourites including veggie  and  children's  options.  Live  music  on  Friday evenings.
