The historic Hereford Arms in Maindee, Newport is in danger of closure. Please visit the Facebook site for updates, and write to Ian Carter at the Planning Office to register your protest.

We have been notified that the Cherry Tree in Tintern, the only Welsh entry in every GBG, has closed, pending an application for change of use. As we understand it, the owners are focussing their attentions on the recently acquired Anchor Inn. Watch this space for further details/campaigning activities in this regard.

Gwent Pub of the Year 2008 is  the Commercial in Pontymister. Recently (July 2007) refurbished, and with a wealth of large TV screens, the pub is popular with locals and real ale drinkers. Situated on the main road, the pub does good value food and has 4 handpumps, with an interesting array of beers from near and far.

The Kings Arms, Abergavenny, has opening a new microbrewery  just around the corner from the pub. After much deliberation, the owner has finally named it the Tudor Brewery.  The plan is to move this into the pub once renovation there is complete. Currently (December 2007) producing 1 ale for the pub, but other local outlets have taken some.

The Pottery in Blaenavon has re-opened after several months.  No Real Ale at present, but it is promised
